Elvis "Aloha, From Hawaii" "Almost in Love" "Live in Las Vegas"
Beach Boys "Live in London"
Chicago's greatest hits
An assortment of K-Tel compilations that would have Black Sabbath sandwiched between America and Seals & Croft.

As the middle child, my usual domain was the back-back of the family's Chevy Kingswood wagon. Luckily for me, my dad had installed some Pioneer 6 1/2" two-ways that were part of the package with the under-the-dash 8-track player.

Here's Elvis in Vegas '70---anyone recognize the drummer?

Ron Tutt , he played with Elvis 1968-1977 He is tearing it up here!! He was Jerry Garcia's drummer from December 1974 through June 1977 (with a brief 1981 encore). Greg Enrico played 12-31-75 Ron also provided background vocals http://hooterollin.blogspot.com/2011/08/ron-tutt-backing-vocals.html "One problem with the 1975 Garcia Band, however, was the absence of harmony vocalists. John Kahn never sang on stage or in the studio, to my knowledge, so he was not a candidate. Hopkins actually liked to sing, but he was an absolutely terrible singer. In fact for the first few '75 JGB shows Hopkins sang lead on a few of his own songs (from his solo albums), and he was just dreadful. There was no chance that Hopkins could sing harmony, since he couldn't effectively carry a tune. That left Tutt. Tutt actually has a nice singing voice, a bit thin and reedy, but in fact that made it a nice fit for Jerry's voice. I have always wondered how this came about. When the band first rehearsed "Catfish John," who suggested singing harmony? Jerry? Ron Tutt? I have to think Garcia ruminated over the need for some harmony, and Tutt offered to sing the part. Since we know that Tutt played had played other instruments, it's not like he didn't know what a harmony part would be. I have to guess that no one had ever offered to let Tutt sing harmonies before. He was such a good drummer that he seemed to be at ease while playing, so that must have made it easy to control his voice, and the Dead always have great sound, so the monitors must have allowed him to hear Garcia's vocals. I'm not aware of Tutt singing harmonies with any other group or on any other recordings."

Going from the big production of Elvis shows to the MELOW JGB theater gigs seem to agree wth him, smiling as he is singing away back there.

Augh- I kept having to skip any tune he was singing.

Tutt-good drummer. Never noticed his harmonies
With Donna moaning low and sometimes Maria Muldar to boot.

"Ron Tutt , he played with Elvis 1968-1977

Agree! Love the sound Tutt and bassist Scheff get rolling as the song starts to stretch out.

Thought this entry in Wikipedia about the TCB Band was interesting:

"TCB brought a new lease of life to Elvis's rock 'n' roll sound of the 50s. Larrie Londin, a Nashville session drummer who recorded and occasionally toured with Presley over a nine-year period, filled in for Tutt on occasion during 1976 and 1977 performances."

Now where do you suppose Tutt was that he couldn't sit in with Elvis?

Enjoy,
